Canon vs. Nikon: Maureen and Mike

Moving on in the Canon vs. Nikon debate, we have my friends Mike and Maureen. Mike is one of my best friends from high school, I would probably say the only one I have been consistently friends with since then with no long term fights. This is probably because he's male... girls can be so dramatic... myself OBVI included ;) Anywho, Maureen has been awesome with helping me practice with different camera stuff... she's an art teacher at South Hadley High, and teaches a little bit of Photography, so she's super patient when I'm having her model and I'm trying to figure something out. This night was no exception- on pretty much 3 hours notice, they came with me up to Northampton to do this shoot so I could practice. Awesome friends? Yup!
I feel like I didn't explain the process I did with these shoots very well in the first post, so let me give a little bit more detail. It was my first time ever using a D700, so I had practiced around the house a little bit before I went out to shoot. I decided to meter everything through the Nikon, and then set the Canon to the exact same settings to see how it stacked up. I'm not going to lie, in some instances while shooting (none of the shots here, but other shots I took) I actually HAD to change the Canon settings, just to get an exposed photo. Canon was much darker at the same settings, across the board. A PUG friend Nathan, who works at a camera store, was telling me one day that it was so annoying that every camera Canon came out with had more megapixels. I will be the first to admit that I am the least technical person in the world, and so to me I thought more megapixels was a good thing. He went on to explain to me with all those megapixels jammed onto the sensor, each one was so small that it wasn't letting enough light in, and that's why Canons are worse in low light situations. Hopefully I'm explaining it correctly (and hopefully Nathan jumps in if I am not) but to me it was such a moment of clarity. Makes total sense! Anyways, so here we go... Canon on the top, Nikon on the bottom!

One more session in the Canon vs. Nikon debacle! So far the odds are stacked against me, and I accept that. To me, I definitely favor the Nikon. But the fact is I'm taking comfort in knowing that I'm a good photographer because I love what I do, and I can get good shots from the Canon. I may have to do more post-processing work and it may take that much more time and effort, but for now that's okay. I'll give a Lana's Final Thought after I post the 3rd session :)
