Hellllllllo my fellow blog-lovin' creatures. It's nice to see you again. I will admit it, I have been a horrible blogger lately. It's been really pathetic, and I wish I could tell you the blog has been lacking because I've been doing glamorous and exciting things- maybe jet-setting over to Europe to shoot a wedding, vacationing in Belize with my tall, dark, non-existent boyfriend... but the truth is, I have been shooting, editing, shooting, editing, shooting, eating Ben and Jerry's, shooting, and some more editing. It has not been fun or pretty. This is the first night in about 3 weeks where I've had a little bit of downtime, so I might get some blog posts ready and load up the blog this week. Or I may get tired and go to bed. Who knows?? I can be craaaaaazy like that. Anywho, for the past few months now, I have been freaking out about Canon. It all started when I switched away from the regular Canon 5D and started using the Mark II. I did a shoot of my friend's baby, and when I got home I could not even believe how many shots were out of focus. That's when I started researching Canon's focusing issues, and that's when I realized that as wonderful as Canon is in certain area, like HD video, Canons are SEVERELY lagging behind in Nikon in other areas right now. What does this mean for me? Um well since I like to eat my feelings, it clearly meant a large pepperoni pizza with breadsticks on the side. But other than that, it meant me testing the waters for myself. I borrowed a Nikon D700 from a fellow Northampton PUGger (thanks again Brian Sullivan!) and ran around like a mad person one night with whoever would hang out with me and let me shoot photos of them. I did 3 sessions, literally having my Canon 5D Mark II slung over one shoulder and the Nikon D700 over the other. And at the end, I have to say, it was a toss up. There were some images that I liked a lot better than others, and I was surprised to find that they were Canon images. But there was absolutely no denying that the color and sharpness that was blowing my mind consistently, and especially in low light situations, was coming from Nikon. So, without further ado, I give you the first shoot in my Canon vs. Nikon experiment. Thanks again to my friend Carlee for modeling!

In all of these blog posts, any vertical photos, I will put Canon on the left and Nikon on the right. If you forget, just remember... C comes before N in the alphabet :) For this first set, Canon is the first image, and Nikon is the second :)

Ohhhh and I just wanted to show off a LR preset that I love- Tone Curve Medium Contrast- love how it makes everything pop!

This is where you could really see the difference... in the bar... not sure if you can really tell from the size of these pictures but the Nikon's sharpness and lack of noise compared to Canon was RIDICULOUS...

So what do ya think so far? This shoot has me leaning toward Nikon for sure... more to come!
